My approach comes from a patient-centered standpoint. I believe the patient/therapist relationship is based on safety, trust, and honesty. You are the expert on your own life and I will be there for support and guidance. You do not always have control over your emotions and thoughts, but you have the power to change those thoughts from negative to positive. You gain insight and become self-aware when you are doing what you are comfortable with. I enjoy incorporating expressive arts into counseling, when appropriate, because there are many ways for patients to express their own thoughts and emotions.
