Several years ago, when Fred Rodgers (Mr Rodgers of the children's TV program) died, I heard a radio show put together to honor him. In it, among his bits of wisdom about how children grow and what they need, he said that "what is mentionable is manageable." Although Mr Rodgers was not a therapist, per se, and I don't think that I am especially Mr Rodgers-like in most ways (no singing, no shoe changing), I think that these words are a useful shorthand for what is helpful about therapy.
