Individuals decide they need or want therapy for a variety of reasons. Many times people do not know what to expect when they begin therapy. I describe therapy as a three phase process. Phase I: This is the beginning of the therapeutic relationship. A mutual rapport and trust develops so therapy can move into Phase 2. The majority of the therapeutic work takes place in phase 2. A person's experiences, both positive and negative, their perceptions, their values, beliefs, and thoughts are explored during this phase.
