Most people who come to me have basically good lives but encounter important obstacles, such as difficulty in finding and sustaining satisfying intimate relationships or in pursuing a career with optimal vigor and success. Some describe subtle self-sabotaging tendencies while others struggle with a general sense of anxiety or hopelessness. When we work to uncover what is getting in the way, consistently maintaining our curiosity and suspending judgments, we uncover outdated “narratives” that shape perceptions and limit options. We pace ourselves, mindful of how anxiety-provoking it can be to confront conflicts long out of awareness. I am an empathic clinical psychologist in private practice in NYC for over 40 years. I also have extensive experience teaching psychologists and psychiatrists in training at hospitals in the NYC metropolitan area, as well as with adults and children who suffer from learning disabilities and/or attentional problems about which I have authored two books.
