Therapy can be intimidating, especially if it is your first time or you have had negative experiences in the past. I encourage clients to bring what's familiar in with them. Is there a song that describes how you’re feeling? A character from a TV show that you relate to? If you’re not sure what’s fun for you, that’s okay, too - we can explore that together. I value authenticity in the therapy office, both from me and from my clients. That doesn't always look "respectable" - if you are angry, ashamed, or doubtful, bring that too. I believe in using humor in the counseling process, however that comes out for you.
