Most sessions are treatment oriented using a cognitive behavior approach, however I also do a lot of work with adults abused as children. I work with many dually diagnosed clients -substance abuse and mentally ill . Referrals are made to Dr. Bennett McAllister if medications are deemed a possibility. He also uses TMS treatments for depression. I also see a lot of clients with posttraumatic stress disorder and complicated trauma experiences. We use many styles of therapy. Our main approach is cognitive/behavioralism, but this does mean we are not involved in your emotional self. A traumatized person often has triggers that bring about a dramatic emotional response that includes unwanted memories. This can be from combat or childhood sexual abuse, rape, or other incidents of extreme stress.
