Treatment for individuals with addictions cannot be considered a one-and-done process. Addiction affects not only the individual, but their loved ones, friends, and co-workers as well. A client with the willingness to pursue long-term recovery needs to address the core beliefs, trauma, loss and grief, and other difficulties that have enabled their addiction. Re-integration into their damaged and strained relationships is essential. Loved ones often struggle with the seismic change in their relationship, including their own lingering fears and anger that may be difficult to manage.
