Hello, my name is Dan Bjierke and I have been a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California for 33 years. Initially, I was accepted into a clinical sports psychology program where I intended to specialize in working with team dynamics and elite performers. When the program folded, I was introduced to the field of marriage and family therapy and the importance of having a strong sense of self-esteem as a basis for creating healthy relationships. In 1993, when I was researching books to create a 12-week self-esteem class, I found a book by Martin Seligman titled “Learned Optimism.”
