My ideal client does not have a specific set of issues. My ideal client shows up, regardless of where they are at with readiness to engage in treatment, their issues, needs, or goals at that time. Showing up and attending the intake allows for a conversation to better understand what is happening for them, what they would like to work on, and how we can help. My experience in assessment counseling has helped develop my ability to connect with people and build rapport quickly. In intakes or assessments, there is not a lot of time to form a connection, so building that rapport rather quickly is important. I take the time to make the individual feel comfortable and ask questions they need to feel comfortable with before beginning the intake questions.
