David’s introduction to psychology was anything but ordinary. During a high school internship at a federal agency’s operations center, he fielded hundreds of reports—from suspected alien abductions and bomb threats, to neighbor spying and sprawling government conspiracies. This experience sparked a question that has guided his career ever since: Why do people do what they do? David has since dedicated himself to understanding what shapes us—how our thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and past experiences influence our identities.
