I believe in the fundamental worth and unique strengths of every individual, and that an attention to these attributes is the bedrock of any helping relationship. I also believe that much of the emotional and relational struggles we suffer in life are born in experiences of pain through which we labored to survive, and that these laborings often limit us or become self-defeating later in life. The therapeutic relationship then becomes a space of uncovering, of pursuing self-knowledge, and of re-experiencing or re-learning authentic relationship through which healing, growth, and a sense of thriving can occur.
