Trauma - experienced as adult or child, an obvious event or a less visible ongoing relational disrepair, or some combination of both - affects us wholly. It can impact the way we think, the way we feel inside our bodies, and can cause long lasting and sometimes flooding anxieties, fear, shame, rage. Often, from a place of survival, we attempt to control it all - to have some agency, some feeling of in-tactness - even when the costs are high: over-performance, people pleasing, dissociation, OCD, disordered eating, substance abuse, etc.
