There is a wonderful Gaelic term “anamcara” which means soul friend. We all search for such a person from time to time, when life is challenging or perhaps turbulent. We feel a sense of hunger, yearning, and seeking instead of peace. We are uncertain about the next turn in the road. Words like anxiety and depression come to mind. Usually the source of our discomfort comes from a deeper place within us, in our spirit. This can include a faith tradition, or being spiritual but not religious, or not. But what we want is healing in the depths of our being, and hope we can find someone who can bring it.
