Or, is it hard to say what happened, but you get the sense it wasn't "normal"? Experiences like these can leave us wanting to be in relationships, but struggling with them. I work with clients who have experienced neglect or trauma over time (e.g., family with substance abuse, difficult siblings, narcissistic partners or parents).
