Therapy starts with not only understanding where you are today, it includes how you got to where you are. If you don't understand where you came from it is difficult to figure out where you are going. While we don't change the past it is part of who you are. Your goals are our goals. It is important in my practice to tell people what they need to hear which is not always what you want to hear. That is why having a therapist you can trust and feel safe with is critical. When we are feeling unsafe and adrift having a destination in mind allows us to get to where we want to be.
