There is no "ideal" client. Each one presents their own set of problems, goals, and obstacles or symptoms which need to be addressed. Most, in my experience, have tried on their own to do well, and solve these problems or issues and come up short. There can be a variety of reasons why. Some are theoretical, some may be factual. Thus, it is critical to get an accurate diagnosis of these, and discuss them with the patient. Usually, they want relief, support, and positive change, but are not sure how to achieve this. It's critical to assess, needs, strengths, shortcomings, to prioritize. Then, focus practicing skills, tools, resources. My specialty is offering support, coping skills-tools, problem-solving, intervention strategies, and much more. The focus is to identify the symptoms of the illness, addiction, or presenting problems....FIRST. Then, we can start "peeling away the layers of the onion, to target the main cause(s) developmentally. I believe in setting "SMART" goals for SUCCESS!
