My focus in working with patients is for them to feel deeply understood by me and to feel safe in exploring their issues, whatever they might be. This understanding is best accomplished, in my mind, through the use of empathy. What is it like for you to be you? For me, the relationship between patient and therapist must point in the direction of healing oneself and through oneself, others. I fundamentally believe, like others before me, that the patient is the one who guides the process. Similarly, it is the patient who is my best teacher.
