The opening of Dante's Inferno reads "Midway upon the journey of our life, I found myself within a forest dark, for the straightforward pathway had been lost." This story of a person's journey through hell became a classic because all of us have found, at one time or another, that the straight path in our lives has been lost, and that we are alone in a dark forest.
