I am an LCPC and RN. My therapy approach focuses on the body. The school of thought I practice from believes that when first faced with an overwhelming event, if unresolved, our body can hold onto the sensations of that initial reaction. A similar threat can recreate those physical sensations. Your body will then influence your emotions and beliefs as if you were back in that original moment. It's those times when your mind is telling you one thing, but your body is telling you something very different; I feel nervous but I don't know why. Somatic techniques can help link these making room for new insights and resolve.
