People often come to see me after realizing that something has shifted: life isn't as meaningful as it had once been, jobs or relationships aren't as fulfilling, or with a general sense that things could be better. Sometimes this can be tied back to a specific event, either in the recent past or long ago in childhood. Other times the cause of the suffering is inexplicable. It's often tempting to seek a quick fix, but true healing and growth take time. I move slowly at first, building a foundational relationship upon which our work can grow. While never shying away from difficult subject matters, I will occasionally use humor to ease the conversation. Therapy isn't easy, but it shouldn't be any harder than it needs to be.
