First and foremost, I am a trauma therapist. I also focus on perinatal issues. Trauma can happen at any point in life, it can come out of nowhere, and it can overwhelm your entire system. It's not unusual to feel depressed and anxious after something awful happens. Sometimes postpartum depression and anxiety begin in the perinatal period, trauma can happen in that time for a number of reasons, and sometimes PMADs have roots earlier in life. The good news is that regardless of origin or source, trauma and PMADs are treatable. You can feel like yourself again.
