My ideal client could be in any stage of addiction awareness. They might be considering whether they have a problem, whether they can stop on their own but need support, are ready to do what is necessary to stop drinking or using and sustained recovery support. There really is no ideal client, it is what the person needs at the time they are ready to ask for some help. Then we sit down and talk, and come up with an initial plan always remembering that it will probably change. I want to meet every client where he or she is in the path of recovery from addiction. I can help because I have been working with people with substance use disorders for 25 years. I've worked with incarcerated people, people with legal problems in the community, families of addicts and alcoholics, seniors, single parents and kids. I am an art therapist, if people want to experience art therapy in their addiction treatment it is possible.
