I am always curious about what brings clients into psychotherapy at a particular juncture of their lives and what they are hoping to be different as a result of conversations with someone like me. Once the responses to this curiosity are articulated and there is a clear purpose and direction for therapy, I listen for what a client already knows and what the client strengths and personal resources currently are and what they have been in the past. This becomes the context for conversations which have the possibility of leading toward preferred changes in the client's life and in its direction.
