Watch how a person builds a sandcastle, a philosopher once said. The first person will proceed hesitantly, fretting about the inevitable return of the waves. The second person won't even start: why bother, the tide will only destroy it. The third person embraces the unavoidable and throws themself into the work regardless, joyful but not oblivious. We often feel like all three people at once, leaving us confused and stuck. The aim of my work is emotional intelligence, which is the capacity to reconcile the contradictions inside ourselves in order to become more vital, creative, flexible, and accepting of our self.
