The foundation of successful change is a willingness to see things clearly - to be honest with ourselves about our thoughts, feelings, and intentions. In order to do this, we need both courage and compassion that come from the heart. I believe therapy is about opening our eyes to our emotional needs and the patterns we've developed to get those needs met. We examine what is and isn't working, with compassion and understanding that all feelings and behaviors serve a purpose. I apply the same approach when working with couples to dig beneath common conflicts and explore the deeper emotions, needs, and hopes for the relationship.
