Often, kids and teens feel unheard, because they are still developing the complex skills of communication and satisfying their needs in healthy ways. Having a trusted adult who they can connect with can be an important element to support new skills and processing big content like grief, trauma, or anxiety. I take time to understand the interests and hobbies of kids and teens, which is often how I get their attention and investment. I am a bit of a nerd, and I find that my genuine interest and respect encourages kids ease up and start expressing themselves authentically
