I was inspired to practice active listening when I worked in education. Students would speak to me about their worries with life transitions, decisions and challenges. I found I wanted to provide a safe space for difficult moments and furthered my education to become a clinical counselor. This is the perfect place to support clients and encourage the expression and exploration of life experiences. I seek to let my clients know I am listening by having genuine curiosity, by asking clarifying questions, validating emotions and by guiding my clients in exploring feelings, thought processes and behaviors.
