Being hurt, manipulated, or even abused by a place that is supposed to radiate acceptance and grace is a disorienting experience. It leads to depression, anxiety, and various trauma symptoms, as well as grief, guilt, mistrust in others, and self-doubt. Existential crises like these are a lot to deal with when we're already living in an anxious world and experiencing other major life transitions, like starting careers, beginning and ending relationships, getting married, starting families, or moving.
