“I feel alone in this.” It is a statement my clients make at times, but more often think and feel, but don’t say. My clients are breaking generational cycles. Some are breaking cycles of abuse and trauma. Others are breaking cycles of valuing productivity over presence or truth and authenticity over comfort. They want to live differently and parent differently than the way it’s been done in generations before. In doing this, they are taking a path that is uncharted. Although they feel sure about the need to do things differently, they often feel afraid and insecure about whether they’re actually doing enough.
