I have had the privilege of working as a Therapist for the past 23 years providing therapy to individuals and families in California. In my work in the Bay Area with families in disadvantaged neighborhoods, I have witnessed the detrimental effects of poverty, racism and violence that many families experience today. It is important to de-pathologize trauma responses as reactions to external forces rather than personal failings.
