About

The Neuropsychiatric Institute provides extensive outpatient Behavioral Health Services in the Tampa Bay Area. Our clinical staff is made up of Psychiatrists, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Social Workers, and Mental Health Counselors. We use a multidisciplinary team approach to treatment. In 1970 The Neuropsychiatric Institute (NPI) was founded as the private practice entity of The University of South Florida College of Medicine's Department of Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Health. This College of Medicine was one of seven new Federally funded medical schools simultaneously being built in the United States “to alleviate America’s doctor shortage”. Psychiatry and Behavioral Health was the first clinical department in the medical school. In 1974, when the medical school graduated its first class, it became accredited. It was the last American medical school built in the twentieth century. The Neuropsychiatric Institute became Florida's first private interdisciplinary mental health center. With Board Certified Psychiatrists directing the programs, the Institute has made major contributions, both in hospitals and in outpatient settings in the areas of Behavioral and Mental Health Care. Throughout the years, the Neuropsychiatric Institute has been at the forefront of mental health care innovation.
