Lately does it feel like everything is completely overwhelming? Biologically we are prone to retreating and hiding when our bodies feel like everything is too much. This is the perfect setup for anxiety and tension in a society which already valued hypervigilance as a way of life. It's no wonder that we are a society that relies on food, alcohol, or drugs to feel better. My approach is one of looking at how the mind and body responds to stress and to start using coping mechanisms to stabilize rather than the proverbial snowball effect. I am 16 years into my own journey of sobriety and speak the language of recovery and self-care.
