¡SÍ se puede! As a child of immigrants, I grappled with dilemmas of self-identity amidst the pressures of acculturation and assimilation. I embrace cultural diversity. Nonetheless, as a Latina I continue to fight against societal and cultural norms. How do you merge conflicting expectations and be at peace? My personal success with these issues, along with formal education and subsequent training have made me a strong bicultural therapist. Thus, I truly believe that memories and emotions are best processed in the language you experience them in because they are inextricably linked and are part of our identity.
