For me, every therapeutic encounter begins with reverence and respect for the value of each person whose story I am privileged to hear. It has been said that "compassion is cure," and my work begins with a stance of compassion and empathy. When depression, anxiety, career changes, confusion, trauma or bereavement disrupt people's lives, they often incur feelings of helplessness and hopelessness. By providing a warm and trusting therapy space, I have successfully helped people to develop resilience and find new strength. I have developed skill in using insight-oriented psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and narrative therapy. Extensive campus ministry experience with undergraduates and professional students at NYU and UVa; individual psychotherapy; hospital work with persons with cancer and HIV/AIDS and their families; clinical experience in outpatient adult psychiatry with persons with severe and chronic mental illness and addiction issues.
