As a drug and alcohol counselor, I envision my ideal client as someone who is deeply motivated to break free from the destructive patterns of substance use but feels trapped by their current circumstances. They may be dealing with a range of issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, and low self-esteem, which fuel their dependency on drugs or alcohol as a way to cope. This client is someone who recognizes the toll their addiction has taken on their relationships, career, and physical health, and though they feel overwhelmed, they are ready to take the first steps toward change.
