I have practiced as a licensed therapist for 33 years. In addition to private practice, I have worked for mental health clinics and hospitals in Virginia, Indiana and Florida. Counseling/therapy is not easily described in general statements. It varies depending on the counselor, the client and the particular problems you are experiencing. Most persons seek counseling because they are experiencing problems which are causing pain or difficulties in their lives. It is an important decision to begin counseling. Counseling calls for the therapist's active efforts to understand the client's needs and the training to help.
