Dr. Heelan is a licensed mental health counselor in Florida and New York. Along with being a Board-Certified Professional Counselor, he has over 15 years’ experience working in clinical mental health and substance abuse settings, working with a diverse, dual diagnosed population. He currently or has maintained memberships in the American Board of Sexology, Association for the treatment of Sexual Abuses, American Psychotherapy Association, and The American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. His main Treatment modalities include; CBT, Solution-Focused, EMDR, Shema, REBT, DBT, Trauma-Informed, and Mindfulness. His current interests focus on the brain’s neuroplasticity and ability to heal itself, and developing a therapeutic approach designed to empower clients from a position of knowledge, versus fear, for those seeking to engage recovery, or simply searching for relief from their maladaptive patterns of life behavior(s).
