The work I do focuses on the problems of today while considering how coping with these may be complicated by maladaptive patterns of understanding and problem solving from the past. Learning about ourselves involves discovering how often we have, without knowing it, clung to thoughts, feelings and conclusions that can keep us "safe" but end up limiting our experience. Much of the facts of our early lives were beyond our control, but counseling can help unravel the ways we may be keeping ourselves caught up in that past and therefore not fully available to a future we might shape differently.
