We may question where we belong, if love can exist without earning it, and whether our feelings are even valid. We’ve felt like a guest in our own story while carrying unseen grief. We may have adapted to sense danger others can't comprehend. Trust hasn't felt safe. Belonging hasn't felt simple. In the wake of complex trauma, we may find that we perform being “OK,” suppress our needs, and endlessly translate our world for others. This is exhausting and deeply lonely.
