Human connection is essential. Yet it’s the people we love the most whom we assume cause us the deepest hurt. If only they would listen, understand, and meet our needs. Love should be easy—shouldn’t it? What if I told you that these very paradigms of thinking—though deeply human—can actually stand in the way of the connection we truly desire? My focus is on helping couples (married and unmarried), families, and individuals who find themselves in dysfunctional or disconnected relationship systems. Through a family systems lens, we’ll explore how your current relationship patterns are shaped by the dynamics of your family-of-origin. We are shaped by our family of origin—and rarely do we connect with others by mistake. Using a family systems approach, and through the collaborative creation of a Genogram, we’ll uncover and explore the multigenerational patterns that inform who we are, how we relate, and where we come from.
