Based on my broad experience in higher education, Federal EAP's and law enforcement/national security settings, I have observed that many people are "too well-adapted for their own good." Caretaking others, performing above expectations, and appearing just fine while their physical or emotional health is being eroded by chronic stress or unhealthy coping mechanisms. In an initial phone consultation, I try to help prospective clients define and clarify their reasons for seeking help. I then provide recommendations regarding counseling, psychotherapy, or other support or treatment options in the person's best interest.
