My career began as a clinical social worker working with young newly discharged psychiatric patients in a day treatment program and as a member of the clinical staff in the outpatient psychiatric walk-in clinic at Bellevue Hospital. These formative experiences taught me our 'diagnoses' and 'diseases' tell a partial story about us and are complex signs of distress, pain and helplessness regarding situations we felt trapped in and unable to change or leave. I believe psychoanalytic psychotherapy helps us get to know ourselves more deeply and to change what we can and accept, without despair or resignation what we can't.
