Therapy, I feel, begins with a relationship, and before someone leaves my office for the first time, I would like them to feel that they are understood and cared for. Very often, people feel overwhelmed in their marriage, , their other relationships, or their life at work. I try to tune in to their current discomfort quickly and give them the idea that we can work together to improve their life.
