As an immigrant shaped by the moral framework of East Asian philosophy and collectivist culture, I know firsthand the tension between honoring family and cultural heritage while seeking an authentic and individualized life. Growing up in that environment has shaped how I understand identity, not as a fixed label, but as an evolving relationship between self, community, and history. That life experience now shapes my work with clients who stand at the crossroads of multiple identities – particularly LGBTQ+, individuals grappling substance use, migration, and the weight of intergenerational conflict.
