“Meet the client where they’re at” is my guiding principle. Trauma is complex, but when we talk about it, we begin to take our lives back, no matter what part of our journey we’re living. I imagine you’re scrolling through therapists, glancing at the different faces, and now you’re feeling into this therapist. You feel vulnerable and if you’re honest- nervous, scared, and anxious. How can I trust a person I’ve never met with the pain I’ve never spoken about? You may feel shame, and you made an unspoken agreement with yourself to never speak of what happened to you. Contacting a therapist is an act of courage. I applaud you.
