For years, I struggled to deal with childhood abuse and neglect, my mother's early death, my younger brother's suicide and my older brother's incarceration. I defined myself by those experiences. And then I realized that my inability to heal from my past was hindering my present and sabotaging my future. It wasn't until I did the work to heal and strengthen myself mentally and physically that I was able to not only heal from the pain of the past but also take action to live fully in my present positioning myself for the future that I want.
