One thing I've learned both by counseling others and being counseled is that we cannot shame ourselves into the person we want to be. I believe if we approach ourselves with curiosity, compassion, and gentleness, we will be surprised at what we will learn, what we can accomplish, and how we can heal. I also believe in the connective power of humor and storytelling within the therapeutic environment. I commonly work with clients dealing with: abuse, trust and betrayal, communication breakdowns, complicated family dynamics, grief, shame, anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
