It is both normal for us humans to get stuck, scared, or in our own way and also to need space and support to understand the cause of our struggles, face our fears, make changes, and grow. I have always loved the following quote by Henri Nouwen because it captures where I intend to begin with any new client: "When we honestly ask which persons in our lives mean the most to us, we often find it is those who, instead of giving much advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen to share our pain and touch our wounds with a gentle and tender hand." My goal as a therapist is to use our combined wisdom (your knowledge of yourself and your life, my experience and expertise), and sometimes that of my therapy dog Bella, to explore your concerns, increase awareness, insight, and self-compassion, identify options for change, and understand and respect what you choose to do as a result of this process.
