Most people come to therapy because they feel overwhelming feelings (like depression, anxiety, or anger), or they find themselves behaving in ways (like damaging relationships, or avoiding things they should be facing) that are hard to change. My approach is primarily cognitive-behavioral (CBT), which means that I try to help people discover patterns of thinking that produce emotions or behaviors that don't work for them, and then learn to think and act differently. It's important for you to feel listened to and understood, but you can also expect my style to be fairly "active," and for our goals to be as clear as possible.
