I specialize in working with seniors and supporting and educating caregivers of individuals with dementia-related illnesses. If you’ve ever been on a plane, you’ve heard these instructions. “Please put your oxygen mask on first before assisting others.” Now, imagine hearing these words as a caregiver… Roughly translated it would mean, “take care of yourself and the better you will take care of others.” It’s difficult to see someone struggle, and oftentimes when we do, we sacrifice our own well-being to ensure theirs.
